After witnessing the recent battle with the void creature and the toll it took on Pun-Hmorg, he couldn’t shake the feeling that the village needed to be better prepared for the future. The threat had been vanquished, but Sherbert knew that dangers could arise again, and when they did, the village and all it's stelciars needed to be ready.
Sherbert sat in his home after mulling over what he could do to help, surrounded by supplies. He had finally decided on making first aid kits that could be used at the ready. On the table before him were rows of bandages, herbs, salves, and various other medical supplies that he had gathered over the past few days. His paws moved with care as he began to organize the items, placing each one into sturdy leather pouches.
He had learned basic first aid from the village healer, an elderly Stelciar named Sage who had a calming presence and a wealth of knowledge. Sage had always stressed the importance of being prepared, a lesson that now resonated deeply with Sherbert. As he worked, he could almost hear Sage’s voice in his mind, guiding him through the steps.
“Always pack enough bandages, Sherbert,” Sage had said. “You never know how many will be needed. And remember to include a variety of herbs, each one has a different purpose.”
Sherbert nodded to himself, carefully placing rolls of clean bandages into the kits. Next, he added the herbs: yarrow for staunching bleeding, comfrey for mending bones, and calendula for soothing burns. Each herb was wrapped in soft cloth to keep it fresh, and he made sure to include a small handwritten note in each kit with instructions on how to use them.
As he worked, the memories of the recent battle played in his mind. He thought of Pun-Hmorg, standing bravely against the void creature, and the other villagers who had looked on in fear. The thought of anyone being hurt again filled him with determination. He couldn’t fight like Pun-Hmorg, but he could do this, he could make sure that those who did fight would have the care they needed afterward.
With the kits nearly complete, Sherbert added the final touches: small flasks of purified water, antiseptic ointment, and a few strips of cloth that could be used for slings or tourniquets. He tied each kit securely with a length of twine. Finally, he placed them into a larger bag, ready to be distributed when needed.
Sherbert leaned back in his chair, feeling satisfied with his work as he looked at the completed kits. They were small, simple things, but they represented something much much larger, a commitment to the safety and well-being of his family, friends, and the community. He knew that when the time came, these kits could make all the difference.
Sherbert wasn’t a warrior, but he was a caretaker, and in his own way, he was ready to protect the village he loved.
