helping the battle

She had to do something, anything, to help.

Azurite was a young stelciar and wasn’t yet ready to leap into battle with her brethren, but she ached to know that the others were out doing their best and she wasn’t with them. She paced around, anxious, unsure what she could do when there were other stels so much more powerful - and braver - than she was feeling right now.

Something caught the corner of her eye - a small decorative wicker basket with fake flowers decorated the room of the house she was presently in. An idea quickly sparked and took root and she snatched up the basket and dashed outside. As she ran she skidded to a stop any time she spied something that could be of use - a torn piece of cloth? Bandages! Some herbs and flowers known for their medicinal properties? Absolutely into the basket too.

She dashed through the forest heading for the field, grabbing items here and there as she went. As she reached the outskirts of the field she spied some other stelciars gathered. She traded off some of the supplies and they loaded her basket up with potions, and she was off again, sprinting toward the action.

She was getting closer when she realized what she was doing. Charging into the fray with nothing but a basket?! What was she thinking! Azurite shook off the thoughts and pinned her ears, dashing through tall grass and flowers. She had to do this, she had to do something! She was felt too small to fight - she had neither the experience in flight to distract a void, nor a weapon like some of the great fighter, nor the fiery paws she had glimpsed. But she was small and speedy and she could run supplies - and hopefully her dark coloration would keep her hidden from many of the monsters… even if her bright teal flames would give her away.

She paused at the top of a small hill, trying to get her barrings. Above other stels soared, racing toward the large void at the center of the fight, others aiming for smaller shadow beasts. She shifted her wings, the flames flickering out beside her, finally spying a small encampment where some others were being helped away and she sprang from her perch in that direction.

It didn’t matter how small her efforts felt. It was something, and that was all that mattered.
