Trouble in the mountains

Sora hissed under his breath as he darted through the air, watching the battlefield from above. The voids were particularly aggressive in the last few days and the battle was raging on. The white stelciar was ordered to join the medical team while he was recovering from an earlier injury himself. He still wanted to take part in the war and be useful, so it was the best the higher ups allowed. Anything else would’ve been too risky. Just a few more days though and he could get back to actively fighting.

The sky was dark and heavy storm clouds towered over the mountain range. Sora had to fight the strong winds to keep steady while he scoured the battlefield, trying to find Stelciars in need of help. He wasn’t the only one, a handful of others were with him, dotted across the sky, ready to aid any fighter in need.
Suddenly loud thunder roared, but not from the sky. Soras’ head whipped around and he saw a mountain rumble, rocks cascading into the valley while a massive Void emerged and five Stelciar fighting it with all their might.

//Oh damn it-// He and a rainbow-colored Stelciar near him saw it unfold in front of them and they both rushed down; the other Stelciar searching for anyone who might have been hit by the rockslide, while Sora arrived and heard cries of desperation. He looked around and not far from the ongoing battle he spotted two small Phosrays, who were clearly trying to hide between the rocks but had been forced into the open by the crumbling mountain around them. Without hesitation he flew towards them and carefully landed next to them.

“It’s alright, I’m gonna get you out of here-” His voice was soft, but firm and he tried to calm the panicked Phosrays down as best as he could. But another loud rumble nearby made him tense up and his ears laid flat, while he stepped over the two Phosrays and shielded them with his body. He saw long, black tendrils whipping through the air, hitting the side of the mountain violently and a dark Stelciar with bright flames all over his body appeared right after, trying to fight back the void.

“Pathetic! You gotta try a bit harder than that, dear-!” The dark Stelciar laughed and mocked the monster, while swiftly dancing through the air, distracting the void while his companions fought it on the other side. It was a tedious fight, but the dark Stelciar seemed to enjoy himself and kept his bravado up, until he noticed Sora and the Phosrays nearby. He let out a laugh and came closer, trying to keep the tendrils away from Sora and the little ones while still being playful.

“Hello there, handsome~ Are you lost? What is a medic doing so far out at the frontlines?”, he asked. Sora was wearing a red scarf around his neck with the logo of the medic team, making him easily identifiable on the battlefield.

The white Stelciar let out a low growl.

“Trying to protect the Phosrays from your recklessness-”, he hissed  and was relieved when he saw the rainbow Stelciar return. They didn’t find anyone in need but saw the battle raging on and were concerned about the safety of the group.

The dark Stelciar furrowed his eyebrows; he hadn’t noticed the Phosrays nearby in the heat of the battle. How careless of him. //Shit-//
“Well then, pretty boy, stop dawdling. Get them out of here!”

The void roared in the background, it was still nowhere near being defeated and the group of Stelciars struggled. Sora could hear them shouting behind the other cliff side and he was worried when he heard the noises coming closer. The dark Stelciar noticed the development as well, and the flames across his body burned brighter, before he rejoined the fight.

“Can you take them somewhere safe?” Sora stepped a little aside and the Phosrays looked up at the cats, frightened and huddling together. The rainbow Stelciar nodded.
“I’ll bring them to the nearby base and I will send help as well. I don’t think the others can manage this beast on their own.”
The battle noises and screams grew louder by the minute and the floor was rumbling beneath their paws.
“Okay- quick now. Before the void gets closer.” He helped the Phosrays onto the back of the rainbow cat and made sure they settled in properly. To lighten the load a bit, he kept the medical supplies of the other Stelciar with him on the ground. He had a lingering feeling that he would need it very soon.

Just as the rainbow Stelciar flew up into the sky and left, Sora heard the crashing sounds of rocks again, and distressed shouting.

Something was wrong.

A voice was close by and he vaguely identified it as the dark Stelciar from earlier. He jumped from high rocks and let the wind carry him while trying to figure out what was going on. Without a warning, a giant tendril slashed through the air; Sora came to an abrupt halt and then saw the dark Stelciar getting hit - the other didn’t have a chance, the power of the void was far too great and with a yelp that got cut short he got smashed violently into the side of the mountain, losing consciousness.

“Fuck!”

Sora growled but he was too far away; he didn’t reach the other in time to catch him and the dark Stelciar fell down; his body crashing onto a small rocky cliffside. Sora held his breath for a moment, anxiously waiting for the other one to get back up, but the dark cat laid there motionless. The white stelciar gripped the bag on his side sternly, before he landed next to the other one. His wings looked crooked and his dark long hair was tangled and sprawled all around him. On the outside he only seemed to have scrapes and bruises but Sora knew that the severe hit definitely did some damage on the inside.
He put the bag next to him and opened it, when he heard a soft groan next to him and saw out of the corner of his eye how the other started to move.

“Stop, you’re gonna hurt yourself even more. Stay still.” He gently placed one paw on the back of the dark cat to keep him in place, while he searched his bag for supplies.

“... what… happened-” The smaller, dark Stelciar tried to move and get up, but he was too dizzy. Everything was spinning and he barely realized that someone was next to him.

“Stay still- I need to take care of this-”

“...Are the little ones safe…?”

“What? Yeh…yes. The other stelciar took them away, don’t worry about them.”

“...good-... I’m glad. …Sorry. I really didn’t…see them there…before I-…” His voice got more and more quiet, and Sora looked at the other concerned when his head slumped back onto his paws and his breathing became even more strained. He was fading in and out of consciousness and Sora was worried.
This was bad.
He had to get the other away from here, he was clearly unable to fight any longer. And the battle was so close- Sora still heard the roaring of the void and the shouting of the Stelciars. They were in trouble, and extremely vulnerable out in the open like this.

Sora grabbed two potions from the bag to stabilize the other one. He carefully administered the medicine and delicately let his paws wander over the body of the darker Stelciar, checking for injuries. He weighed his options, which were slim at the moment.

But before he had to decide anything drastic, he spotted shooting stars arriving all around them, joining the fight.
The rainbow Stelciar had kept their word - they sent help.
