Fighting off monsters
Azalea had been plotting for a while now. She couldn't just let the void monsters invade her home and terrorise everyone - that was still *her* job. There had to be a way to stop the creatures and fight back against them. She was very handy with her hands but usually didn't have to create her own weapons. These void monsters were a bit too big for her usual weapons of choice though. She had to construct something bigger and sturdier to really damage the beasts. Azalea was at home thinking this over before she decided that some field studies were necessary to think of a right solution. She went outside and visited the places where recent void monster attacks had been sighted. A few of the beasts had been reported to be flying but most of them left big imprints in the earth, so a ground based attack would be the preferred one here. Azalea looked around and tried to remember every detail. Every broken twigs, trampled bushes and thrown rocks. Once the void monsters had a victim in mind they seemed to mindlessly go towards it, no matter what was in their way. This was something that Azalea could use to her advantage in designing a trap. Something to catch their legs would be preferred but from the movement patterns it seemed like the void monsters didn't seem to feel pain so it could be hard to create a trap that would really deter them. Something like spikes or arrows would shoot through kneecaps and bones but if the beasts didn't care for pain then that wouldn't stop them, they would just continue even with two crippled legs. So it had to be trap that really made them immobile or maybe hurt their eyes in a way they couldn't see their targets anymore. But a lot of the beasts had multiple eyes or could just rely on their sense of smell. With all these considerations in mind Azalea went back home to grab tools and get to work. She decided to build something that would both get into the ground and injure the creatures at the same time. A simple leaf trap came to mind but that wouldn't do. Azalea wanted something bigger, better, something to trap the void monsters and also protect the victims. So she came up with a brilliant plan: Make a fake cave entrance. One that looked big enough for the monsters to fit but once they tried to get through the entrance the rocks above would fall down and trap them. The heavy weight would slow down the monsters as least, even if the injuries weren't enough. So the trap could help Phosray and Stelciar escape or give them more time to attack the monster. The actual construction of the trap would take a bit of work though. Azalea first found the perfect spot, a location that was between two bigger trees and then went into a shallow canyon. It was narrow enough to protect from attacks out of the sky but the entrance near the trees was wide enough to lure a creature in. The construction took a few hours with the help of friends but once they were done there were rocks suspended by loose ropes and roots, ready to fall down once the bigger root at the ground got triggered. They did a test run to measure out the distance between Stelciar and Phosray running away and triggering the trap and the monster behind them and it worked out perfectly. Those beasts wouldn't know what hit them!
