Koi and the mistaken firework
Koi and the mistaken firework
Koi breathed in the fresh salty air, as he flew alongside the seagulls flying along the coast, listening all the while to their caws. It was a beautiful day in Colsentia. The sea was clear, the weather warm and temperate, and the sun was beaming down on him. He was almost home, carrying the letter for his mum from the post office. It was a pale dove grey number, with a bright purple stamp, and he had tucked it away inside his hat. What could possibly go wrong? He thought to himself. All of a sudden a gust of breeze blew strongly, and his goldfish hat he had since he was a baby flew off towards the forest. "Oh bother." he found himself muttering, and dipped and dived with the wind currents maneouvering himself so that he could try and follow his hat, his long koi fish like tail looping and waving around in the breeze, his restricted fishie friends, shivered but swam alongside him. His faithful, tried and trusty friends from birth. Soon he dipped and dived and stretched for his hat, two orange calico paws stretching out to their maximum length. Finally he grasped his hat with two paws. "Ah hah! Got you!" he exclaimed before immediately crashing into a bunch of leaves, twigs and branches, and tumbling to the ground in a colossal thud. "Ouch.... dang it." he said slowly getting up off of the forest floor and brushing himself off with his paws. He blinked several times trying to place his bearings within the forest. As his eyes adjusted to the change in lighting, he realised he had found himself in a part of the forest that had become quite overgrown and must've at one point been a popular hangout spot. A rusty old bench, with a few planks missing lay in front of him, and several shrubs and bushes had grown into the bench. "Oh.. wait... MY HAT!" he exclaimed, suddenly remembering why he had fallen down here in the first place. Quickly, he padded around, looking for his hat, before finally finding it lying on top of a blackberry bush. He gently pried it from the bushes thorny twigs and dusted it off too, before giving it a good once over, looking for the letter and inspecting for damage. "Hmm.... yep, all fintastic." he said out loud as he found the letter still safe inside his hat, before plopping it ontop of his head. He then flapped his orange and blue wings, about to gently take off when he felt his foot snag on something, and came tumbling straight back to the ground, rolling forwards several times over, before bonking his head on a nearby tree. "Ouch, ouch, ouch. Ohhhh stupid vine!" he exclaimed while nursing his sore head and also smoothing out his hat. He twisted around to find the accursed plant that had tripped him to rip it straight out of the ground in revenge, when he realised the vine was wrapped around something? Carefully he pried the thing away from the vine, to reveal.... a.... firework? "Huh? Where did this come from? Aw man, it's gotta be ancient! I mean look at this packaging!!! They haven't decorated fireworks like these in years.... wait... wait, wait, wait a minute... isn't this? That legendary super explosive big boy that came out several years ago?!" he exclaimed, reverently holding the firework in his paws. "Aw man, hell yeah! I have to take this with me! Are there any more?!" gleeful with excitement, Koi pulled the vine along, to find an entire box of the fireworks just sitting there left to rot! "WHA-OMG!!!" he exclaimed and danced around with joy, his fishie friends swimming rapidly around him, doing flips every now and then. Carefully he prised the remaining fireworks off the vine, before snapping the vine and using it to bundle the fireworks together so he could take them home with him. "Hehehe, mum and dad are going to be so surprised. I bet we could have a super firework party! Maybe Cherry, Kinka and a few others might be able to come!" he muttered out loud, before, this time flapping his wings and taking off successfully. As he flew up with joy, he bonked his head yet again, on another tree branch. Wincing at the pain, he looked around the tree canopy, looking for a way to fly up and out of the forest, before eventually finding a small clearing he could get out from. He soared up, higher and higher, bursting out of the undergrowth with vivre, he hummed a happy tune to himself, gliding and dipping with the breeze, as he flew home to his parents.
"Moooom, Daaad! I'm home!!!" he yelled out as he placed his mum's letter and his newfound prize posession right outside the door, before attempting to untie the vine from the firework. A blue hatted Stelciar with a paler calico coat, came padding over to greet their son.
"Welcome back home, sport! Anything in the mail for us today? Oh... another one of those love letters... your mum has so many admirerer's these days. I'm just grateful she fell in love with me.... hey.... what have you got there?"
"Dad! Dad! Look!! It's a super deluxe explosive big boy!! You remember how you told me you had some of these when you were a kid?!" Koi said beaming with pride, grabbing the firework and showing his Dad proudly.
"Uhh...." his dad replied, chuckling a little to himself. "Hate to break it to you kiddo, but that ain't a super deluxe explosive big boy. This is just an old special edition of firework shaped spray paint they released for the Star Monarch Festival last year! Hahaha, guess its some of that junk that fell out of that old whale void a few months ago."
"Awwwww man. Stinkers." Koi muttered to himself.
