Furthest GLIDE
Solacy was a bit nervous about her turn in the game but she was also excited and looking forward to it. The other pairs of Stelciar and Phosray were lined up as well and the spectators were in awe as they looked on. Pair after pair stepped up to do their best as the judges made sure to time them correctly.
"Come on, don't be nervous! We got this!"
Kinka was ruffling through Solacys long hair, she was already sitting on top of Solacys head and was intently watching the competition.
"Your wings are super big to get us really high as fast as possible and my gliding technique is unmatched!"
Solacy really hoped that a bit of the confidence would rub off on her. She could need it.
"My wings aren't the only big part though, I'm not the most delicate Stelciar around... Some of these are so fast. Starting from the ground going up is way harder than just flying fast in general."
"Come on, don't take this too serious. It's a game after all! Sure, winning is nice but don't stress yourself so much. Just enjoy the experience."
Solacy smiled and nodded, knowing that Kinka could feel the movement while sitting on top.
"As long as we don't get last place that would be super embarassing."
Solacy squeaked in surprise while Kinka just started laughing.
"Kidding, kidding! And I know we will do great. Come on, let's get into the zone."
There were only two pairs before them now and Solacy forced herself to stop watching how they performed and what distance they got, instead focusing on her own breathing and relaxing her muscles. Kinka was humming the melody from Eye of the Tiger. At first it seemed distracting but Solacy ended up humming along as well, grinning at the ridiculousness of the situation. She was really taking this way too serious, it was just a fun game! A prize would be nice, but it would be stupid to only focus on the result and not enjoy the experience. She did a little jump to get her legs warm and Kinka laughed in amusement before returning to humming the song.
Then it was their turn! One of the judges had their stopwatch ready and was smiling.
"Hi, thanks for participating! Solacy and Kinka, right?"
"Yep, that's us!", came Kinkas voice from above.
"Great! Are you two ready?"
Kinka was giving her yes while Solacys head whirled around. She had to pull herself together.
"Ready."
"Okay, get in position and start when i say GO!"
Solacy walked up to the spot, lights shining around her. The lights at least helped to make her feel like there weren't any people watching them.
"We got this Kinka."
Solacy crouched down.
"3, 2, 1, GO!"
Solacys strong legs kicked her up from the ground and her wings unfurled as she raced to fligh as high as possible. She didn't fly up in a complete straight line but rather at a slight angle to keep the momentum from her legs kicking against the ground. Keeping that path was easier than to adjust to be completely straight. Her hair was flying in all kinds of directions and Kinka screamed in joy as if she was riding a roller coaster.
The whistle sounded and Kinka jumped from Solacys head while she was still flying upwards. Kinka spreaded her arms and made her body as flat as possible while also taking up space with her wings to catch air. She was like a little disk that had been hurled through the air. Solacy was looking on and flew behind Kinka in a slow tempo.
"You got this!"
Kinka glided and glided, Solacy was super impressed with her ability to stay mostly still while adjusting to slight changes in the wind. When she finally landed a judge came to mark the position with a wooden post.
"Congratulations! You are at the moment in third place!"
Kinka whirled around and jumped up into Solacys arms.
"That was awesome! I wanna go again, that was so much fun!"
Solacy laughed in response and nodded.
"I can't believe it was over so fast. I was nervous for so long and the event was over in a blink."
"Well, we still have a lot of other things to discover, this was only one stall after all. Do you wanna look around for something to eat before we look at what else the festival has to offer?"
Solacy nodded and they walked off the marked area.
"Do you not want to stick around to see what place we got though?"
"Nahh we didn't win anyway, so why bother feeling bad about which place we got? We can use the time so much better doing something different!"
Solacy smiled and her heart bloomed with warmth and joy.
"You are right. Okay, let's grab a bite and look around more!"
