A Delicious Taste of Spring

A gentle breeze rustled the petals of the blooming trees, carrying the fresh scent of the spring. As Poppo strolled through the bustling streets, other Stelciars and Phosrays around her were enjoying the warmth of the season—some arranging flower garlands, others painting vibrant spring scenes on canvases, and a few simply basking in the soft sunlight. Laughter and chatter filled the air, blending with the soft hum of nature’s renewal.

Strolling through the lively crowd, Poppo's face is filled with excitement when she finally spotted Picusso as she was tending to her little stall, carefully restocking her specialities—the magical cat edibles.

Poppo then approched the yellow Stelciar as she calls her out cheerfully, "Picusso! There you are!"

Picusso’s ears perked up instantly, fluffy tail flicks in delight as she turned to Poppo's voice, "Oh, Poppo! What’s up?"

Poppo twirled excitedly, "I've come up with a brand-new cake recipe to celebrate the spring! Would you like to come over and have a try?"

Picusso’s eyes brightened at the words, "That sounds amazing! When should I come?"

"Tomorrow morning, if you can. It'll be fresh out of the oven, just for you!" Poppo beamed.

Picusso laughed, "Alright then! I'll be there bright and early! I can't wait to taste this new recipe of yours!"

The next day, Picusso finally arrived in front of Poppo’s little house, her paws tapping eagerly against the wooden door. The smell of citrus and sugar was faintly in the air, but something else mixed with it—something... burnt?

Knock. Knock.

"Poppo?" Picusso called, but no response came.

She knocked again, but this time, muffled yelps came from inside. "Oh no, oh no—oh my stars! Not now!"

Picusso stepped back, tilting her head in confusion. A second later, the door swung open, revealing a very flustered Poppo with her fur dusted in...black dust? An ash? A trail of smoke also curled from inside of the house along with the unmistakable scent of something burnt clung to the air.

"Poppo, what happened?!" Picusso exclaimed.

Poppo let out a nervous giggle, "Well, I did said that I'm planning to bake you something today as a celebration of the spring, but I kinda...fell asleep as I wait and uh...now it's a little—" She hesitated before glancing over her shoulder, "Okay maybe not just a little, but burnt. Like, a lot,"

Picusso peered past Poppo and saw a very blackened cake sitting in the center of the kitchen table, "Oh my..." Nevertheless, she tried to stay positive by forcing a little smile, "Perhaps we can still try saving it? I've tried put some frosting onto a burnt cake once and it preetty much taste good so why don't we try doing it to this cake too?"

Hope sparked in Poppo’s eyes, "Do you think it'll work?"

"It works best last time! Besides, we'll never know unless we try!"

Poppo quickly grabbed a bowl of the pre-prepared frosting and began to spread a lot of them over the cake. Picusso joined in as well, adding little decorations to make it look more presentable.

With the cake now covered in fluffy white frosting along with a few cuts of strawberries and white chocolates, Picusso sliced one for her and for Poppo.

And then, with a small gulp, both took a bite.

Crunch.

Picusso chewed, her expression twisting slightly as an overwhelming bitterness flooded her tongue. She forced herself to swallow before exchanging an uneasy glance with Poppo.

And Poppo, she frowned as her tongue is now filled with the mix of bitterness of the cake and the sweetness of the frosting.

Picusso sighed, at the sight setting down her fork, "I'm sorry for saying this, Poppo, but this is...well, inedible. Like, completely,"

Poppo’s ears drooped, her tail curling around her paws, "Y-yeah, I think so too..."

Feeling bad, Picusso quickly added, "But! We can just...well, make a new one! Together!"

Poppo shook her head, "I used up the last of my ingredients on this one, I didn’t have time to buy more this morning..."

Picusso blinked, then grinned, "Then...wait right here! I’ll be back before you know it!"

Before Poppo could ask what she meant, Picusso had already took off, spreading her small wings as she rushed back to her place.

~

A couple minutes later, Picusso has returned with paws full of baking supplies, "Alright! Now we can bake this cake properly!"

Poppo gasped, eyes widened with surprise, "By the stars, Picusso! You were supposed to come over and eat the cake, not helping me make a new one..."

Picusso shrugged, setting the ingredients down, "Well, it's not like we can enjoy a burnt cake right? Besides, I'm your friend and I can lend some paws too!"

A warm smile spread across Poppo’s face as her earlier sadness melts away, "Oh, alright then! We can start mixing now!"

They worked side by side, Poppo giving instructions while Picusso carefully followed along. They mixed the flour, eggs, and milk together, giggling whenever flour puffed up into the air or when Picusso nearly spilled the entire can of sugar.

Finally, the batter was ready, and Poppo carefully placed the cake into the oven.

As the cake slowly puts into the oven, Picusso chirped, "Oh, why don't we brew some tea too? They should be able to keep you awake this time!"

Poppo nodded, "You got me. But yeah, that sounds good!"

And so, they waited for the cake to bake as they sipped their lavender tea and chatted about lots of things—from the blooming flowers outside, the way the air smelled fresh and new, to Poppo's plans in making bunny-shaped cookies next time.

Soon, a delicious scent filled the house. Poppo carefully opened the oven, her tail wagging in excitement as she pulled out a perfectly pink strawberry cake. She let it cool for a bit before adding some frostings and decorations like the last cake, before cutting two generous slices for her and Picusso.

"Moment of truth!" Picusso exclaimed as they both took a bite.

Soft, fluffy, and infused with a perfect balance of vanilla sweetness—the cake was absolutely turned out to be delicious! Super delicious even!

Picusso flutters as the sweet taste fills her mouth, "Poppo, this is incredible!"

Poppo beamed at the compliment, "I know! And I couldn’t have done it without you, thank you so much for helping me out, Picusso!"

Picusso waved a paw dismissively. "You're very much welcome! And it's totally worth it too!"

And so, as the sun shined warmly through the windows, the two friends enjoy their freshly baked cake and tea, savoring the start of another beautiful spring together.

Poppo use a 'traditional' oven here, like I have in real life, where you need to heat them up on the top of heat source before putting something in it. And yes, there's no timer so you need to watch them or else they get burnt:'> (happened to my muffins once)
